Here's a new one for me! I have an ee that has a voodoo doll in the "cubby". It is in a common work area. One of her coworkers is convinced that it is directed at her, several others just don;t like it. The ee is out on a medical leave, can I just remove it?

If it was me, I'd just box it up and mail it to the employee with the notation that several employees have found this offensive and you feel it serves no purpose in the workplace except as a distraction.

Ditto Rockie's suggestion, except I would not go to the trouble of mailing it. Just box it and put it in your cabinet until she returns. If she's really into voodoo she could easily turn the mailing of a voodoo doll into FMLA retaliation. For all you know, there's a page in Barney & Ernest T. Bass' voodoo book that talks about reversing a hex by mailing a voodoo doll. HR people have to consider all the possibilities, ya' know.

I can't wait to see the response to this, but . . . If you allow other religious items in employees work areas, you need to allow this item also. Voodoo is a religion and should be accorded the same allowances as any other religion.

Sorry can't sned a picture the doll is question is MIA ! Can't imagine what could have happened to it. I am sure the posse will locate it at return it to it's rightful owner. For now, all is quiet on the western front.

If you require everyone to take personal things out of their cubes, you could probably remove it. Is there a way to move it so that people don't feel it's aimed at them?

You might also educate people that voodoo dolls are not necessarily evil or for curses. It may ease fears (or may not). Hollywood and others fears have made them into something worse than they are. The religion, Vodun, and like any religion, there are practicianers of good and bad. The voodoo doll could be simply a representation of a force of that religion, such as an angel would be to some Christians.

Then again, I don't know the person, so they could have it there to scare others, without real power, except the ones others give to it. It's hard to tell with people sometimes.

No it has not! Crout I take great offense at your last post! As a life long Mets fan I can only say, it is sad but understandable that you feel the Phillies need to resort to witchcraft to finish above the Mets. This year will be a long year for the Phillies, and a much better one for the Mets.

Hey I am the balloonman, pins and I don't get along Crout! I will tell you Crout growing up my second favorite team was the Phillies and even had the pleasure of seeing the Mets play the phillies in Phillies stadium growing up. (Mets won of course!)
