Department Relocation

Space has become a major concern with our company. In support of Strategic Planning for next year, we are looking at relocating back office departments. The tentative sites are within 30 miles from the present location. We are talking about less than 50 employees who would be directly impacted. It is my understanding because of the amount of employees we are looking at, that we have no concerns with things such as the WARN Act, notification requirements, age issues, etc. If any of you have been involved with relocation, I would appreciate any feedback you have regarding the process. How it was handled, were any incentives given to the employees affected, such as an increase to offset the longer commute, etc. Thank you....

It is not how far the new location is from the old, but rather how far is the new location is from their homes - that is what the employees will be thinking about. Of course, you want to keep these people - monthly free gasoline cards good at their choice of stations will go a long way to keeping them happy, you can vary the card values according to how far each individual affected drives.

Thank you for your input! We do want to retain our people, but anticipate some attrition because of the move. We are receptive to all suggestions!
