Docking Pay

Can an exempt employee have a day of pay docked if they call in sick but have used all vacation and all sick time allotted to them? I keep seeing things about not docking less than a week for discipline, and I know that you must pay for a whole day if a partial day is worked.

It is my understanding that you can dock the person IF you have a sick leave policy and the person has used all accrued sick leave. Otherwise, no. Anyone have another answer?
